Abstract
Fusarium species are known as common soil saprophytes and important plant pathogens. Human infection caused by Fusarium species has been limited to onycomycosis, mycotic keratitis and superficial burn wound infection. But widespread usage of
antibiotics
and immunosuppressant and increase of severely immunocompromised patients due to malignant neoplasms and other debilitating disease have led to the increase of infection of the deeper tissue and systemic disease caused by Fusarium species. The
authors
detected rapidly growing white fluffy colonies in fungal culture of total 11 specimens of peritoneal dialysates from a 36 year old male patient who has been done continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis for 7 years and who has been treated with
repeated intraperitoneal antibiotics for the repeated peritonitis, and we identified the isolate as Fusarium species by morphology of the colony and the microscopic findings. It is thought that the report of the peritonitis caused by Fusarium
species is
very rare in Korea, so we report this case with brief review of literatures(Korean J Clin Pathol 1995:15(4) : 604~09).
